We are all spending WAY more time at home these days thanks to COVID-19. I’ve plumbed the depths of my streaming services looking for entertaining horror comedy movies to fill the nights with scares and laughs.
This is not an exhaustive list, but some of my picks to help yo u make the most of any streaming services you might already have. Please feel free to add to the list in your comments!
(BTW. I didn’t include Amazon, because dude. They have so much.)
ALSO, The horror-only streaming service, Shudder.com has a free 30-day trial during the COVID-19 shut down, if you use the code SHUTIN.
And now streaming on Hulu… (P.S. they have more options if you subscribe to add-ons like Live TV, Starz, etc. But I’m going to assume you don’t.)
Little Monsters, a zombie comedy about a kindergarten teacher who keeps her kids safe during a zombie attack by convincing them it’s all a game.
Anna and the Apocalypse, a Christmas-themed musical zombie comedy!
Grabbers. A town in Ireland is under attack by flesh-eating Lovecraftian hell beasties. Thankfully, they won’t eat you if you’re drunk!
Elvira Mistress of the Dark. One of my all-time fav movies, features Elvira as a show girl forced to live in a small, uppity town in order to win her inheritance and fund her Vegas show.
What We Do In the Shadows, season 1. In case you missed it on *, the TV adaptation of the movie follows four vampires in their quest for world domination, which starts with five houses in Staten Island.
Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell. It’s Office Space. In hell, as loser demon Gary Bunda tries to reap souls for the red man down below.
Wolfcop. You know I love this one! Loser alcoholic cop Lou Garou turns werewolf and battles a cult.
Stan Against Evil. A TV show about a town with a curse. Witches try to kill the local sheriff.
Tragedy Girls. What happens when two high school girls will do anything for a social media like? Murder, of course!
Odd Thomas, a ghost romance about a man who can see and speak with the dead.
It Came From The Desert, a B-grade giant bug movie reminiscent of 1950s sci fi.
And streaming on HBO Now.
HBO doesn’t have the killer horror comedy line up that other services do, but if you’re in the market for Child’s Play 2 and 3, Scary Movie 3, as well as the epic turd that was the Van Helsing movie, they’ve got you!
They do have some movies worth watching, though, like sci-fi comedy FAQ About Time Travel, about three fellas in a pub who meet a time traveler then accidentally unravel their timeline.
Happy Death Day, a fun Groundhog Day style movie wherein co-ed Tree is stuck in a time loop, reliving the same day of her life until she figures out who murders her.
Teeth. You ever heard those horror tales about ladies with teeth in their–ahem–downstairs party box? Now you can watch a movie about it!
Hatchet 4: Victor Crowley, a slasher comedy about a giant mean murderer of suspect supernatural origin who lives in a swamp and the reality show crew out to find him.
Hair Wolf, a 12-minute horror short about white women who want to suck the life out of black culture like vampires, presented in vintage horror style.
And now Streaming on Netflix.
Netflix is home to a lot of classics and sequels, like Scary Movie 1 and 2, Candyman, The Nightmare on Elm Street remake, Child’s Play 1 and Cult of Chucky, Tremors 1 through 5 and Cold Day in Hell, Train to Busan, as well as my all time favorites The Evil Dead and Ash Vs Evil Dead. But there’s more!
Oh My Ghost, is a Thai movie about four drag queens who run a boarding house and who desperately want to banish a folk spirit. Totally worth watching because it’s different, even though it’s a bit confusing. And there are sequels.
Little Evil, a comedy riff on all of The Omen and demon child movies that were oh so popular in the 1970s and 1980s.
Tucker and Dale vs Evil, the ever-worth watching horror comedy classic about two hillbillies who get mixed up in a murder spree.
Life After Beth, a new twist on zombies featuring the always funny Aubrey Plaza.
And Bonus…Fun channels on Youtube
Check out my new favorite channel by Will McDaniel. Part demon, part clay animation all awesome!
CryptTV features new and interesting horror shorts. Not so much on the comedy, though, so beware!
And this is NOT a horror channel, but is great for a laugh. Follow along as Ashens showsyou the worst and weirdest things for sale at dollar stores and knock off toy stores.
