Giving Back

I strongly believe we must all do our part to make the world better. That’s why:

Many of the Amazon links on this site go through smile.amazon.com.

When you shop through this portal, Amazon donates 0.5 percent of your purchase amount to the charity of your choice. To choose a charity, log in and go to “your account,” go to “choose your charity” or “change your charity” to search through eligible organizations. I also have some Amazon affiliate links, and any money raised that way will be donated to charity.

I participate in the World Community Grid, a nonprofit that allows researchers worldwide to use your extra computing power (i.e. when your laptop is sleeping) to find everything from cures to cancer to the development of more nutritious strains of rice. It’s awesome. It’s legit. And it’s free. You can sign up for World Community Grid here.

Part of my book profits support cancer research.

orangeIf you’ve read my blog, you’re probably aware that I have stage 4 kidney cancer, which is terminal and incurable. Even though it’s one of the ten most common cancers, it receives very little research funding and has a five-year survival rate of only 8 percent. Research=cures, that’s why a chunk of the profit from my book sales are donated to organizations funding and conducting research into new cures and treatments for kidney cancer.

Including, the Kidney Cancer Research Alliance, which gives $100,000 annual grants to researchers looking for a cure.

Click here if you’d like to make a donation to the Kidney Cancer Research Alliance. No amount is too small. You can literally help save lives!
